Introduction to Chess

John Fawole is the Founder of Albany Chess Center and a FIDE Master (FM), US National Master, FIDE Chess in Education Lecturer, FIDE Instructor, and US District Chess Coach. John has worked with students of all ages, from beginners to advanced competitors, and is committed to using chess as a tool for critical thinking, problem-solving, and personal development.
Students will learn the fundamentals of chess in a structured and engaging environment.  The program introduces piece movement, basic tactics, checkmate patterns and simple opening principles.  Each class combines short lessons with guided practice games so students can apply what they learn right away.  The goal is to build confidence, concentration and problem-solving skills and have fun.
