Kevin is an accomplished, award-winning watercolorist with a degree in Art Education. He has been teaching for over 40 years.
Continuing Watercolor
This course is designed for the student who has previously had at least one watercolor course with Kevin or is already familiar with transparent watercolor techniques and materials. You can still consider yourself a “beginner” and take this class. We will once again explore a theme in watercolor (a subject, style, artist, etc.) and continue to practice and expand our watercolor skills.
The class will sometimes be conducted “workshop”-style, with lots of individual instruction while students work on their own projects related to the theme.
INTRODUCTION TO TRANSPARENT WATERCOLOR
This introductory class is aimed at the student with no experience in watercolor, but will also be appropriate and valuable to beginners and intermediate students as well. Repeat students are always welcome, because every session has a new twist! ALSO, EXPERIENCED STUDENTS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME TO WORK ON THEIR OWN INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE CLASS LESSON.
MORE FUNDAMENTALS OF DRAWING:
If you have the desire to draw realistically, you can learn how.
This workshop is designed to give the beginning student a strong foundation in the necessities for all drawing, whether still-life, figure, portrait, or landscape. It will also be helpful for the more experienced student who wants to revitalize their drawing approaches.
We’ll discuss how our brain works in right mode and left mode and how to learn to shift into the right mode where most drawing skills are located. There will be exercises in action/gesture drawing, blind and modified contour, seeing and drawing negative space, showing value (dark and light), basic types of perspective, and rendering basic forms. The last session will be an extended drawing of the student’s choice, with lots of individual help from the instructor
